Freedom of Speech & Wrongful Outrages Jahed Own Correspondent,

As human beings, we all generally want freedom of speech and safety in our lives. Sometimes it's been violated so badly that law and order authorities, courts, social support, and lawyers are needed to be involved. But those people who have been given authority to maintain the law and order situation, as well as those who are ruling the state, are dishonest, corrupt, and biased, which will make our lives disrupted and unsafe. In article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), we all have the right to form our own opinions and to express and share them freely. According to article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both of which provide that no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Recently, what happened with Abdul Muhith Kamalganj, Moulvibazar was not expected in a democratic, civilized country where citizen rights are protected by our constitution as well international humanitarian declaration. He was the victim of forged complaints from ruling parties, corrupted and dishonest local leaders, as well as some local government officials. Local Promi Health Care (Pharmacy) business owner Champa De, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Model police station, Jubo League leader at Kamalganj, Chhatra League former president and their followers made his and his family's lives measurable and unsafe. Muhith's father and elder brother were attacked for some fake allegations (like different political views) against them made by the above people. This is due to business competition, illegal donations, and disagreements with local ruling party leaders and local government officials. Muhith said he is not feeling safe at all after several episodes of criminal incidents happened to him and his family. It seemed the man of truth was the culprit, rather than someone who yelled lies and wanted to establish as a truth. Another piece of identical and scary news is the refusal to take GD (General Diary) by law and order authorities. This incident passively supports those who break the laws to implement their own dishonest wishes and showdown the power of the ruling parties. Moreover, police raided their house and claimed that he and his family were involved in anti-government publicity. Different political views are being validated by UN under CCPR- International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It is not uncommon to commit extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, and torture allegedly to maintain power in Bangladesh. Different countries as well as UN also expressed their deep concern about the political unrest and false allegation against any one who is holding different political view other than ruling party. We immediately appeal and demand to the local government, law and order authority, and civilized society to stop this kind of brutal and unlawful incident in our society and to provide proper justice for Abdul Muhith so that we all, as citizens of an independent, prosperous civilized country, can contribute to maintaining the peace and safety of every person in our harmonised community.
