Fakhrul demands polls without delay

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul
Islam Alamgir demanded quick reforms and polls to hand over power to
people.
“Logical time certainly doesn’t mean a long time. As soon as the elections will be held, it will be better for the country,” he said. Fakhrul added: “Power should be handed over to the people through elections by making reforms quickly. If required, we will take to the streets again for democracy. Any dillydallying won’t be accepted,” he said. The BNP secretary general was addressing a memorial meeting for former BNP Standing Committee Member Brigadier General (Retd) ASM Hannan Shah at Kapasia Government Pilot High School ground here today. BNP secretary general demanded immediate withdrawal of all cases against party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman to allow him to come back home. He also called for withdrawal of the cases filed against all BNP leaders saying otherwise it will not be possible to create a neutral situation. “Though Hasina fled the country, the crisis was not over. People believe that democracy should be established through free elections,” he said. Awami League is still hatching various conspiracies to destabilize the country, he observed saying AL may create unstable situations centering Durga Puja. He urged everyone to remain alert against the evil design. Fakhrul said, “Hindus are citizens of this country. I assure you, any incident will be dealt together.” Mirza Fakhrul said following the ouster of the AL regime through the students-people uprising, people got scope to breath freely. “This opportunity was not created in a day. They (AL) have destroyed all democratic institutions to cling to power. Sheikh Hasina's government thought they would stay in power for the whole life and continue to amass wealth through their tyrannical and oppressive rule. He said those people who sent BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to jail in a false cases are now going to jail for corruption. BNP’s Gazipur district unit President Fazlul Haque Milon chaired the meeting while Hannan Shah's younger son and district BNP general secretary Shah Riazul Hannan, BNP central leader Humayun Kabir Khan, Dr. Rafiqul Islam Bachchu, former mayor Mojibur Rahman, Dr. Mazharul Alam, Omar Faruq Shafin, spoke among others. Kapasia Upazila BNP general secretary Khandkar Azizur Rahman conducted the programme. Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir offered ziarat at Brig. Gen (Retd) Hannan Shah's grave. |
